Default would a country/society without poverty actually work?

Would enough people strive to learn higher paid professions, if they'd be economically comfortable with just any job? how many people would spend years in studying, if in the end they would be payed just moderately better than someone who works at mcdonalds?

Current society doesn't "work", but it's better than it's been in the past.
No poverty wouldn't solve every problem, but having no one hungry is better than even one person being hungry.

true, but i was talking about the long-term repercussions on the work force. How many doctors, lawyers, etc. would we have if the difference in earnings with other less profitable professions, would be minimal?
